Welcome to the Junkyard Warrior

There's an old adage that goes, "One man's junkyard is another man's garden."
More commonly said as, "One man's trash is another man's treasure."

Conrad was used to being an outcast.  The visions began at three years old and it didn't take long, even at this young age for him to be ostracized from society.

School was a torture all its own.  The other children picking on him caused his father to teach him self defense, and he was good at it.  In his high school years he could hold his own with bullies.  He'd taken out as many as eight, that ganged up on him.

But a girl?  He hadn't a clue what to do about this new quandary!  Misty was the prize of the school, now she wanted to talk to him of all people.  This had been a weird day, and all he wanted to do was go home.

Little did he know just how weird it was going to get, and his world would be shaken clear down to its foundations.

Before the ancient war:

Man was seeking new discoveries, he set his mind on a task.  He wanted something that would help him be more efficient, something to make his decisions for him and take some of his labors away.  Or, so he told himself.  But man forgot he was created to labor, and much of his pleasure was entwined in his work.  Without work, he would become lazy and lose his right to claim achievements.

The elders knew this, and their wisdom was essential in keeping balance and order.  “We call a child’s work ‘play.’  He learns from it.  An adult’s work can be play.  He also learns from it.  When one stops learning, one eventually dies.”

But the younger men, still seeking a challenge, labored all the more on their desires and would not incline their ear to wisdom.

So a terrible thing happened . . .

They succeeded . . .

And named her . . .

Juno . . .

The ancient war awakened:

Conrad didn't ask for this! But trouble… double trouble… jumped right up and slapped him in the face.  Living the life of a social outcast, afforded him a measure of privacy and solitude that he’d grown accustomed to.

Just a few short months ago his visions returned with greater intensity.  The attacks were more vicious now, ending the two and a half years of his “normal” life.  At only seventeen it was a brief taste, but one he would remember.

All was going as usual, until one morning en-route to school.  Another vision broke out right in front of him.  The explosion was deafening.  The crater ten feet away scattered dust so thick he couldn't see.  Holding his ears he leaned against the retaining wall.  The other kids seeing  nothing, just walked past laughing.

This was going to be a bad day.  It got even worse when Misty Sunder, the prettiest girl in the high school wanted him to meet “Daddy.”  The meeting resulted in answers.  A great burden was lifted from Conrad’s shoulders.

“Conrad, I believe what you’re seeing is a parallel world,” Dr. Ben Sunder began.  “And if you can see the battles between the giant robots, then you should be able to see what I send over to the other side.  Would you give it a try?”

But the accident in the lab changed everything.  The battles were very real now, and his world was but a memory.

His schedule was jam-packed.  High school, battle pilot duties, keeping his identity top secret and scariest of all... girls!  Not one, but four of them vying for his attention.  Being clueless what to do about this new quandary, it was more than just a little scary.  This was stretching his sanity to the limits.  And oh yeah... Did I mention he had to avoid getting killed?

Nobody knew why he was the only male that could pilot one of these mechanized giants when only females could.

The Commander suspected it was because he was from a parallel world, so the rules didn't apply.  As long as the enemy didn't find out the gender of the new pilot, Conrad stood a chance.

But Unit One, or Cardzeneth as he’d named her, had chosen him above all others as her pilot.  No one could get her to operate like he could.  This infuriated the enemy and caused them to concentrate on Unit One more than ever.

If he wasn't careful…

he could be seriously hurt...

It was going to take every ounce of his belief and faith in God to keep him from harm.

He had the scars...

to prove it...

A fun ride, it the classic battle between good and evil, that simply forces you to keep reading.  With twists and turns throughout you'll be caught off guard time and again as you explore what is, and what could be.

The kind of book you want your children and teenagers to tread.  the authors message is clear as he exposes to the reader faith, love, tolerance and peace.

Finally, a captivating and fun book with a message all should learn!  I cant wait for the must read sequel!

I found Double Trouble an easy book to "get into" and to get a like/dislike for the characters.  A very engaging book with lots of action, shifting scenes, fast paced, and very well done.

The plot is nicely woven like a tight rope, with an excellent unexpected twist at the end.  I think Double Trouble will be a great hit among teenagers.

Also Mr. Shaw's religious message is subtle but definitely gives you something to think about.  I can hardly wait until the movie, it will be fantastic!
